As Christians, we walk by faith and not by sight.
We've been reminded of this again over the last couple of days in dealing with death. The faith we have in knowing that we will be with Jesus after we die. That death here on earth isn't the end but really the coolest of beginnings. A place where there is no pain or suffering. A place where we don't need the sun to shine because God's glory just lights the place up. A place where we will be forever. Very cool.
Two Christians that have been friends of our families passed away over the last couple of days. Both fought against cancer.
Benay and I lived in a little town in Mississippi for over 4 years right after I graduated from physical therapy school. The town is called Grenada for those who might be reading this and don't know our story. We got involved with a little church family (about 100 people) that really took us in and made us feel like family. There we met Mark and Lisa Williams and their boys (they have three). We really enjoyed any time we spent with this family. They were funny, outgoing, and just fun to be around. We got an email last night telling us that Lisa passed away yesterday. We'd been following her tests and treatments on their Caring Bridge site. It's always tough to know someone who passes away. It's even tougher when they are young. Lisa was younger than us.
Her funeral is tomorrow. We ask that you pray for Mark and their boys. I can't imagine what they are feeling today.
My dad sent an email today telling us he and my mom were going to a funeral this afternoon. It's for a man named Mike Davidson. He and his wife Leslie are part of the Bible class that my parents are a part of. We didn't know them very well but they were incredible prayer warriors of this ministry as well as financial partners. They never said anything about either one. They just quietly battled the enemy on our behalf. My dad shared the following about Mike, "He was a wonderful, caring man who inspired all who knew him." Please pray for Leslie.
Only by God's grace and prayers can these families make it through the next couple of days and beyond. I pray that their funerals will be celebrations of their lives which blessed so many people.
Therefore we do not give up; even though our outer person is being destroyed, our inner person is being renewed day by day. For our momentary light affliction is producing for us an absolutely incomparable eternal weight of glory. So we do not focus on what is seen, but on what is unseen; for what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
2 Corinthians 4:16-18
