I woke up this morning to find out that John Wooden had died and gone to heaven.
I'm sure that most of you know who he was. Some may not.
He was an incredible college basketball coach at UCLA many years ago.
He won 10 championships. He set incredible records as a coach that will probably never be broken but that wasn't the most important thing to him. He was a Christian. His walk with God was what defined him, not championships.
If you don't know much about him then click on this link and watch the video and read the article from ESPN.
Basketball was his mission field. He changed lives as a humble Christ follower.
God gave him incredible wisdom and patience to deal with men during a pretty wild time during American history. He was a calming influence in a time of wildness.
Here are a couple of my favorite quotes:
"Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are."
"Learn as if you were to live forever; live as if you were to die tomorrow."
"What you are as a person is far more important than what you are as a basketball player."

The article said he was asked one time what he would want to hear God say when he arrived at the pearly gates. He said, "Well done."
We believe he's already heard that.
He's home now.
