Kid's Day/Oktoberfest

October 12 is Kids Day in Brasil. Just like we Americans have Father's Day and Mother's Day (we have those here too), Brasilians take a day to honor the kids. We love it. Our kids really love it and why not? Another day to get a present. Who wouldn't like that?

As you know October 12th was this last Sunday. So, after we celebrated and worshipped with the house church that we are a part of, we took the kids to Oktoberfest.

Our family belongs to a club. It's a place where Anderson goes to school and our family members have, at one time or another, taken dance class, soccer, gymnastics, youth chorus, water aerobics........you get the picture. Kids only go to school half days here and they typically don't have many organized extra-curricular activities for the kids and so we have to look to other places for our kids to do these things. One big need for us to be a part of a club. It also has, as you can imagine, opened a whole new door to some budding relationships with other parents, etc.

The name of our club is Sogipa (so-gee-pah). It was started 1867 by German immigrants. So there is a German history involved with the club. The club is also next door to a school that teaches in Portugese and German. We actually have our house church celebrations at Sogipa on the last Sunday of each month.

Every October Sogipa hosts an "Oktoberfest."
It's just like you would imagine. Everything is German. The food, the songs, people dressed up in old German clothes, everything.

We took the kids and had a ball. We, of course, enjoyed some food. Here Bronwyn is eating a "brezel." Okay it's a pretzel but that can be your new German word of the day.

They had games of strength.....

.....and dancing......

.......and a band.....

.......and people dressed up in German outfits.
The place was packed.

Here's a couple of "grainy quality" tastes from the day.
