Grandparents+Technology=Fun

A couple of days ago Ansley and I were talking to her grandparents. Which pair of grandparents isn't important because the story is the same for both sets.

You see Skype and computer things like that give the grandparents fits at times.

Yesterday as Ansley (off camera) began laughing at the technology challenged grandparents, she ran to her computer and found a video on Youtube. She showed me the video below. We then showed it to the grandparents and they couldn't stop laughing. They wanted to fight it and deny it but ended up accepting it as fact.

It's a mirror image of what we often see when we talk to any of the 4 grandparents.

We think you'll like it and will be reminded of someone in your family.

And grandparents, don't blame me. Ansley sent me the link and so I had to post it. Blame her.

Enjoy:

Bicampeão

Hey B,

Guess who won the Recopa again last night?

We had to win by 2 to avoid extra time and then possibly the penalties.

What did we do? Won 3-1.

It's our sixth year in a row of winning an international tournament.

Independiente brought a big torcida from Argentina. They were loud and wild starting 2 hours before the game up until Damião did his thing.

Me, Garrett, Dee and André S. went and had a great time.

Here are your goals. I know you'll enjoy. You'll especially enjoy Damião's first goal.

And, of course, there was the Ruas de Fogo again.

Life or Death?

Like with any sport, soccer fans can be crazy. Soccer fans also, like in any other sport, blame the refs if things don't go their teams way. I've learned lots of swear words in Portuguese just listening to the fans yell at the refs during games.

The video below is of an elderly man who didn't like the way the ref called the game against his team. It happened in the city of Oss, The Netherlands. After the game he decided to get onto the field to take matters into his own hands.

Take a look:

My question? How does an old guy on a scooter get that scooter, A SCOOTER, onto the soccer field with no security noticing. Maybe he slipped the security guy a 50 for the chance to run over the ref at 2mph.

At the end of the video you see that they both, the ref and scooter guy, entered the players' tunnel. I wonder if scooter guy swung back around and made another swipe at the ref or if they just broke out in fisticuffs?

For lots of people sports are definitely life or death. This guy definitely fits that category.

Andersonisms

It's been a while since we've shared any Andersonisms. We know he has a following and so we share a recent one to hold you over until the next few come flying out of his mouth.

Yesterday Anderson was doing his homework. He stopped, looked at me and asked, "Hey dad, in 9 days and 3 months can I go with Lucas to play in a futebol championship? It's going to be against PROFESSIONALS, I'm going to be number 6 and it's going to be at Lucas' house."

I wish he could play against the professional players because I'd like to see who these "Pros" are and where they come from but I didn't have the heart to tell Anderson that in 9 days and 3 months we would be in the United States.

If only the tournament could've been in 9 days and 5 months then Anderson would've been able to play.

Maybe next time.

Awesome Futebol Weekend

B,

You missed an incredible futebol weekend.

First, Saturday night, the under 20 Brasilian seleção won the World Cup 3-2 against Portugal. Ansley's boyfriend made all three goals. Amazing. Especially his last goal. Here are your highlights from that game.

Then yesterday Ronaldinho Gaúcho and Flamengo came to town. We almost didn't get in (me,Anderson and Garrett) because they said they sold all the tickets. I decided that we needed to go home to watch it on tv but Garrett wanted to stay in the line to try to get one even though everyone said it was sold out. While he was in the line a friend (André S.) called me to say he heard on the radio that they just freed up 500 more tickets. Garrett was about 100 people out when it happened so he got a ticket for R$15. His persistence paid off.

Even with us playing short one man(Guinazu got red carded), the juiz cheating (as usual against teams from Rio and São Paulo.....notice the guy pushing our barreira during Ronaldinho's falta with no call and D'Alessandro getting pushed down in the área with no call), and Ronaldinho playing better than anybody in Brasil right now (except Damião)we played great and ended up tying them and almost won at the end. Damião made a bicicleta to tie it at 2. It was awesome. It was the best tie game we've ever been to. People were clapping when it was over. I've never seen that happen before. Even the Flamengo fans enjoyed it. Even Garrett, "Mr. only an Inter victory is good Garrett", didn't complain about the tie so you know it was good.
Here are the highlights from that game:

Finally, saving the best for last, your brother had a game yesterday morning.
His team won 7-1. He scored twice, almost scored again and assisted in 2 other goals. Here are his melhores momentos.

Sorry you missed the fun.

Back to Texas

We just put our oldest on a plane to go back to college.

We, thankfully, got to eat lunch together one last time and have some airport hang out time before she had to leave.

There were a few tears shed between her and her sister.
Sorry B.....I just had to put your post Ansley hug face on here.

Goodbyes aren't much fun when you live 5,000 miles away.

We can't complain too much. We were super blessed to have her back home over the last 3 months. We had lots of fun together and the good news is we should be seeing her in a couple of months. .

We ask that you pray for her safety on all three of her flights.

Thank you.

Restart

Both of our winter interns, Stephen and Weston, have now gone back home to the United States.

Bronwyn goes back to college this week so I'm going to try to get back into the blogging groove.

New blog post. New family photo above. A restart, if you will.

We had a fun 7+ weeks with Stephen and Weston and it's hard to believe that Bronwyn's three month home visit will be over on Wednesday. It all went by super fast.

As I try to get into that blogging groove again I'd thought I'd start with something fun that happened with me and those three while they were all here.

I found the video below on youtube. The rest of you readers won't care about it but the three will enjoy it.

So, Bronwyn,Stephen,Weston, here you go. Enjoy the memory and, Stephen and Weston....plan on coming back for more games.
