We let her pick everything we did that day.
She first picked to walk on the beach early in the morning.
We didn't have a birthday cake ready for her so at breakfast Ansley made her a cake from our breakfast buffet food. Yes, most every hotel we've been to in Brasil serves cake for breakfast. One more reason we love Brasil. She then wanted to open up her presents. We went to the beach for a little while but it was cloudy and cool. So we ate a quick lunch of chicken and shrimp on sticks...... .....and then headed to the indoor pool. After the pool she wanted to go out and eat seafood.
We ate some good shrimp and fish and then had a birthday cake at the restaurant. We had a great time and Carys enjoyed her birthday.
Things got really interesting while we were in the restaurant. It began to rain, and by rain I really mean flood. We watched it rain hard for 40 minutes. One of the waiters told me it reminded him of the flood from November. Not the duration but the intensity. I've never seen it rain so hard for so long.
After seeing that it wasn't going to stop I had someone from the restaurant walk me over to my car. I was ankle/calf deep in water. I picked up Benay and the kids and we started on our journey to the hotel. Normally it would take 5 minutes to go from the restaurant to the hotel. That night it took over 2 hours. At one point we had to pull our car up on the curb so we could keep water from coming into our car. It was a bit unnerving.
We finally made it but the next couple of days we saw some remaining crud from the rain. It was a birthday that we won't soon forget. If you are worried about Carys not celebrating with her friends, don't be. She is going to have a slumber party on Friday night. In some ways the flood sounds a little more appealing than a house full of 10 year old girls.
